Before Knowing

Before Knowing
As a fitness and food enthusiast, I am rather in tune to my energy and appetite. However, right before Thanksgiving, I noticed a few rather strange things. First: thirst! No amount of H2O could keep me from feeling parched. Next: the winded, out of control breathing that caused me and my loyal running buddy Brea to walk during one of our runs. Last: cravings. Looking back, it was nothing like I had ever experienced. It resulted  in an argument with one of my favorite colleagues over where to go to lunch. He wanted to go to a local deli instead of the hole in the wall Mexican place I was salivating over. My good friend Emily witnessed this "discussion" and knew right then what I was about to find out 24 hours later from my doctor...  we were expecting!
Ironically, I had ruled out pregnancy after taking two tests a week prior. A couple fun facts if you have never been pregnant:
  • There is a monumental different between five and ten seconds, ladies. (You know what I mean)
  • That teeny, tiny, almost invisible ghost of a plus sign... COUNTS!

Needless to say, I was thrilled. The rest of the day I was glowing with excitement. I told my husband first, shared the news with a few very close friends and began to think about our little one.

Before my husband and I "stopped preventing," we both agreed we wanted to stay true to ourselves as soon to be parents. To quote Kate (one of the hottest new moms I know), "What good would it be to my child if I turned into someone I didn't like?"

This is pure genius. While I am new to all this, I’m aware of the shifts during pregnancy and the first few months of parenthood. However, I believe if you set goals to stay true to who you want to be, you save your self from getting lost while caring for your new bundle of joy.

Bearing that in mind, let this serve as my public declaration: I’ll remain the same fun fitness enthusiast and foodie you all know and love. I hope that by sharing this journey, including bump fashion, “nesting” tips, mommy to be workouts and meals that tame those intense cravings. Welcome to LiveEnergized, 2.0!

  2. You will be great Treenah! I never believed in any of that crazy while pregnant stuff. I was the exact same person I always was, just carrying a little extra weight around the belly!
